The AACS is a non-profit, semi-professional chorus run by an
elected board of directors. Singers are chosen on the basis of
musicianship, and the ensemble includes not only professional singers and
instrumentalists, but also teachers, lawyers, doctors, students, homemakers,
retirees and business people. The AACS has been invited to
perform throughout Michigan and has collaborated regularly with local
ensembles.
Mission Statement: The Ann Arbor Cantata Singers are
dedicated to the presentation of great choral literature at the highest
standards of artistic achievement. Our goal is to maintain growth, not
only in musical excellence, but also in service to the community.
Summary of Services: AACS presents several major concerts
annually and is active in performance opportunities with other arts ensembles
including Arbor Opera Theater, the Flint Symphony Orchestra, Comic Opera Guild and The Galliard Brass.
The AACS brings performances into the surrounding communities, especially
to retirement and extended care facilities whose residents would be unable
to travel to our regular performances. Our Student Outreach Concerts give
youth choirs the opportunity to perform with our ensemble, with AACS periodically
awarding scholarships to gifted student musicians to attend the Interlochen
Center for the Performing Arts.
